Congress Passes H.R. 4872 - The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010

President Obama is expected to sign into law early next week H.R. 4872 – the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, a bill adopted by Congress under budget reconciliation procedures that terminates new loan originations in the 45-year old Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) on June 30, 2010, and revises the just-enacted health reform bill. Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to adopt H.R. 4872 by a 220-207 margin, with 32 Democrats joining all Republicans voting in opposition. Earlier in the day yesterday, the identical bill cleared the Senate by a 56-43 vote, with Senators Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Ben Nelson (D-NE) joining all Republicans in voting in opposition.
