Debra DeMuth Resigns from EFC Board - Noel Simpson Appointed to Fill Open Seat

The Education Finance Council Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Noel Simpson, Chief Financial Officer, Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) to fill the remaining term of the Board position left vacant with the resignation of Debra DeMuth. Ms. DeMuth resigned from her Board position on June 8, 2010 due to a change in CollegeInvest’s business direction.

DeMuth served on the EFC Board from 2003 to 2006 – Board Treasurer 2004/2005 and Vice-Chair 2005/2006 – and was elected again in March 2010. DeMuth has been tireless advocate for making college more affordable for thousands of college students and a dedicated supported of the Education Finance Council and its members. Her presence on the EFC Board of Directors will be missed.

Noel Simpson started his career at RISLA in 1993 and served as the Executive Director of RISLA from 2004-2007. Prior to that, Simpson worked for fifteen years as a financial and policy analyst for various state and local government agencies in New England. Simpson is active in the local financial aid community and has been the State Coordinator for Rhode Island’s College Goal Sunday event for the past three years. He also served for six years as Treasurer for the Rhode Island Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. He has also served on various committees with Education Finance Council.

“Noel will be an excellent addition to the EFC Board of Directors,” said Chuck Sanders, Chair of EFC and President and CEO of the South Carolina Student Loan Corporation. “His years of experience, knowledge and expertise will prove to be invaluable as we move forward.”

Simpson will serve through March 2013 effective immediately.
